The Sleepless Guide To Las Vegas

Explore the Vegas strip and so much more besides.

The Las Vegas strip.

‘Las Vegas looks the way you’d imagine heaven must look at night’. So wrote author Chuck Palahniuk about the world’s ultimate nocturnal party hub, but for Jamie Foxx Vegas is a tough town in which he has one night to save his son from a violent drug lord in new thriller SLEEPLESS, out to own and download from 11th September.

If you ever find yourself with one night to spare in the casino capital of the US then you’re going to need some guidance to truly experience the best hedonism that Vegas can offer – alongside your Hunter S. Thompson sports jacket and huge appetite for cocktails.

First off, if you’re pulling an all nighter, don’t be afraid to head off the Strip. Downtown around Freemont St lies some of Vegas’ greatest bars including ‘Atomic Liquors’- an outstanding den of retro bonhomie beloved by the city’s bearded and bed-headed set; think craft ales, leather booth seats and Springsteen and Lep Zep on the jukebox. The bar name, if you’re wondering, comes from the 1950’s, when patrons would sit on the roof in deck chairs watching nuclear test explosions out in the desert.

Sip up your pint, it’s time to up the glamour stakes. Take your pick from cocktails overlooking a fantastical farrago of fountains in the Italian-villa-esque Hyde Bellagio or go on an adventure which will take in five levels of dance floors, pavilions and light shows at the Hakkasan club inside the MGM Grand. This is the spot to catch the best DJ’s in town- Calvin Harris and Tiesto have both played here recently.

On the warmest summer nights, XS, located at the Encore casino, delivers with its outdoor cabana and pool for al fresco dancing (and posting, naturally) whilst the Marquee club at the Coliseum has floor to ceiling glass walls so you can look out at the neon landscape lighting up the desert night sky.
And you can get up into that sky by taking a spin on the High Roller Observation Wheel at the LINQ Promenade. This 550 feet high behemoth keeps on turnin’ until 1 am. Each ‘pod’ takes 40 people which basically makes this one of the highest instant parties in town.

Feet aching? Maybe it’s time to take in a (very) late night show. Come the witching hour and the erotic factor rises in Sin City. There are a plethora of midnight burlesque shows around the Strip which exude sexiness rather than sleaziness. Take your pick from the classic X Burlesque show at the Flamingo to the infinitely more quirky Zombie Burlesque show at Planet Hollywood- rarely have green body paint and lingerie gone so well together…

Exhausted? You really should be by now. But Vegas can do a lot better than a 4 am burger on the sidewalk. Bootlegger Bistro, located at the end of the Strip, serves up what is hands down the best Italian comfort food in the state of Nevada twenty-four hours a day.

Indulge your inner Goodfella and finish off the night with a late, late cannelloni before hitting the mattress just as the dawn comes up over the desert. You seized the night. And you’re skipping breakfast. Now that’s how to do Vegas.

Sleepless, a tense new action thriller starring Jamie Foxx, Scoot McNairy and David Harbour is out to own on DVD & Blu-ray and Download from 11th September
