If someone today came to you with an idea for a game involving a young boy who captures and imprisons small animals to be used in combat the chances are you would probably report them to the RSPCA.
However, back in 1995, such a concept was seen as the perfect basis for a series of computer games, cartoons and even a movie about a lad’s quest to catch them all.
Pokemon was undoubtedly a global phenomenon with over 200 million copies of the various titles released under the name sold to date.
Nintendo continue to release new Pokemon titles too, despite many of the game’s original audience getting a little older and moving on to bigger and better things in the process.
Things like Game of Thrones – the medieval fantasy drama series with more tits than bird sanctuary and enough gore to open a blood bank.
With those once-strong feelings for Pokemon replaced by a desire to see a brother and sister shag on screen, a man get castrated or a small child get burned at the stake most fans probably thought they had seen the last of Pikachu.
However one Game of Thrones fan, deviant artist Kaleb Raleigh, who appears to have been rather partial to a bit of Pokemon back in the day, has only gone and done the logical thing by fusing his twin passions into something quite incredible.
Using each of the animals that feature on the various house banners that feature in the show, he’s gone and created a whole host of new Pokemon for fans to enjoy.
Let’s just hope that, should they one day feature on one of the games, there isn’t some twisted option to slit their throat or eviscerate them.
It’s Nintendo after all.
