The final trailer for upcoming superhero epic X-Men: Apocalypse has been released with a very familiar face making a comeback.

To say Hugh Jackman is an actor synonymous with the role of iron-clawed superhero Wolverine is something of an understatement – the Australian has played Logan in eight different films to date.

However, until now, many fans had feared that Jackman was set to miss out on the madness and mayhem that looks set to unfold in X-Men: Apocalypse with new kids on the block like Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique taking centre stage.

Such fears have been laid to rest by the last trailer for Bryan Singer’s latest instalment of the superhero saga, which sees the gang taking on Apocalypse, one of the deadliest villains to occupy the Marvel universe.

Though it remains relatively Logan light, Wolverine, or at least his trademark metallic claw, does make an appearance.

The good news is that the film will not be the last time we see Jackman as Wolverine either, with another movie with the X-Man taking centre stage also in the works.

Quite how much of Wolverine fans will see in the upcoming X-Men outing remains to be seen but there are plenty of familiar characters returning to the fold.

Storm, Cyclops and Nightcrawler, who all featured in the Singer’s first two X-Men films, are all set to return – albeit with different, younger actors cast – while James McAvoy and Nicolas Hoult are both back as Professor X and Hank ‘Beast’ McCoy respectively.

It is Jackman who is the big survivor though and only lasting legacy from X-Men: The Last Stand – Brett Ratner’s addition to the canon that almost destroyed the franchise for everyone.

That would be the film that featured the considerable acting skills of Vinnie Jones as the Juggernaut.

 Yes, that actually happened.
