The WWE’s biggest and best wrestling stars from the women’s division will get the chance to prove themselves on the biggest stage this summer in a new-look 32-competitor tournament.
Due to be broadcast on the WWE Network, the tournament will represent the first of its kind created exclusively for the company’s female division.
It represents a landmark moment for the organisation and wrestling as we know it and follows months of speculation.
The move comes as part of a new initiative dubbed “WWE Reimagined” in which the company will look to champion initiatives like the women’s side of the sport.
Grapplers from some 17 different countries will feature in the tournament, with the likes of Bayley, Alexa Bliss, Asuka and Nikki Bella all likely to take part.
“Building on our Women’s division, it gives us great pleasure to share in announcing what’s next for WWE,” Raw Women’s Champion Bayley said.
“For the first time ever, this summer, WWE Network will feature a Women’s Tournament.”
“I speak on behalf of all of us, not just the champions standing before you today, but the entire Women’s division. It’s truly an honor to be part of another significant movement in WWE history,” Bliss said.
The WWE Network previously hosted the United Kingdom Championship Tournament, which showcased some of the UK’s very best grapplers.
If successful, then the tournament could yet lead to even bigger main events for the biggest and brightest female stars in the world of wrestling.
