A woman has been arrested in Argentina after she allegedly cut a man’s penis and testicles off using a pair of garden shears.
26-year-old Brenda Barattini has been apprehended and stands accused of using the garden tool to chop off the manhood of a 40-year-old male, known only as Sergio F to the press.
The man has been taken to hospital, where he is said to be in a “stable condition.” Unfortunately, doctors were unable to reattach his penis. He remains in intensive care.
State prosecutor Bettina Croppi has since confirmed Sergio F’s injuries are “very serious” and that “it’s very likely he’s lost the ability to be able to father children”.
Barattini has yet to give a statement to the authorities and will not be questioned formally by police until she undergoes a psychiatric evaluation.
The tests are being conducted to assess whether Barattini was in any way sexually attacked. There is still some confusion as to whether the pair were in a relationship at the time of the attack, though it is thought that they know each other.
Barattini’s lawyer, Carlos Nayi, told the press that “there’s justification for what happened.”
“The information I’ve received is that she was the victim of a sex attack,” he said.
“She let him into her apartment because he’s someone who’s in a rock band and is an acquaintance of her brother but once inside, instead of removing a musical instrument as he was supposed to, he attacked her sexually and she assumed a defensive attitude. Whether or not she acted excessively is for the courts to decide.”
Sergio F’s lawyer, Eduardo Perez, has denied these claims though.
“I don’t understand what’s happened. This is someone I’ve known for some time. This was a peaceful encounter,” he said.
Perez claims the pair had be seeing each other for several months prior to the attack, which happened in Neva Cordoba, in Argentina.
“They were in the middle of things. He wasn’t asleep. They began with a sexual game in which he was blindfolded. ‘There is evidence that was at the crime scene,” he said.
State prosecutor Croppi added: “What I can say is that the man wasn’t tied up when police arrived. He was helped by neighbours first and then by paramedics who arrived after the police.”
Barattini, an architect, is now facing charges of wounding. Police are continuing to try and establish what happened and where, exactly, the pruning shears used in the attack came from.
The case echoes a similar incident from the US back in 1993, when Lorena Bobbitt cut off her husband, John’s, penis with a knife after years of abuse at the hands of her spouse.
Though she subsequently threw the penis into a field and handed herself into police, medics were eventually able to reattach the member and Lorena escaped charge.
