What Happened When West Ham Tried Their Hand At Horse Racing Commentary

With the Cheltenham Festival just around the corner, Betway has been busy putting some of the West Ham squad through their paces on all things horse racing.

Football commentary might be full of all the familiar clichés and sporting tropes, but horse racing commentary is a whole other ball game – minus the ball of course.

To prove that, Betway sent Joe Hart, Patrice Evra, Mark Noble and James Collins to learn the ropes with ITV Racing’s Richard Hoiles before the start of Cheltenham Festival.

The challenge was simple: to see if any of the Hammers hopefuls had what it takes to make it as a racing broadcaster.

In order to find out, ITV Racing legend Hoiles took them back to school – Commentary School, to be precise.

Nominated for Sports Commentator of the Year award at the recent British Sports Journalism Awards, Richard was the ideal man to put the boys through their paces.

The lesson was broken down into two parts: first the West Ham players learned the basics before taking an exam featuring a  a classic Cheltenham betting moment.

But who would end up top of the class, and who would have to stay behind to do extra homework?
