Wesley Snipes Could Yet Return For Another Blade Movie

The Demolition Man actor has been discussing the possibility of Blade 4.

Wesley Snipes has opened the door to the possibility of reprising the role of Blade, the iconic Marvel comic book character he made a household name across a trilogy of successful superhero movies.

Snipes’ role in the emergence of Marvel as a major cinematic force sometimes gets overlooked. After all, it was the success of the first Blade movie that prompted 20th Century Fox to take a gamble on the X-Men with Sony following suit with Spider-Man.

That first effort, released back in 1998 and directed by Stephen Norrington with a script by future Dark Knight scribe David S. Goyer is now 20 years old and remains a firm favourite among fans of the half-vampire turned vampire hunter.

Its sequel, 2002’s Blade II was directed by Pacific Rim’s Guillermo del Toro and enjoyed similar success with fans and critics alike.

In fact the only major mis-step came with Blade: Trinity, directed by Goyer, which garnered negative reviews despite cleaning up at the box office.

Snipes didn’t cover himself in a lot of glory on that particular film, with fellow cast members claiming the actor spent much of his time smoking weed in his trailer, employed multiple stunt doubles and communicated with Goyer via a series of post-it notes.

The Demolition Man star has been through the ringer since then, including a stint in prison for income tax fraud from December 2010 to April 2013.

Now back working in film and TV, Snipes cuts a far humbler figure and took the opportunity to express his eagerness to return to the role of Blade during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I am very much open to all of the possibilities. If Blade 4 comes along, that is a conversation we can have,” he said.

“And there are other characters in the Marvel universe that, if they want to invite me to play around with, I am with that too. I think the fans have a hunger for me to revision the Blade character, so that could limit where they could place me as another character in that universe.”

Wesley Snipes as Blade

Seeing Snipes integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe would certainly make for an intriguing prospect. One potential option could involve Snipes, as Blade, making an appearance alongside Tom Parker’s Spider-Man.

The character previously popped up alongside Spider-Man on the animated series, hunting professor-turned-vampire Morbius. Could a move towards that particular villain open up an avenue for Snipes to return? We’ve definitely heard worse ideas.
