Wayne Rooney ranks among the 10 fastest footballers in the world and if you think that statement sounds a tad outlandish, don’t worry because you aren’t alone.
First spotted by The Mirror’s Mark Jones, Rooney was ranked among the planet’s greatest speed merchants in a study put together by Mexican club Pachuca.
Quite why they have put the study together, or how they came up with the data in the first place, is anyone’s guess especially as both Adama Traore and Sadio Mane failed to make the top 10.
It ‘s entirely based on their performances from the last year too, which makes the inclusion of Rooney – who has resembled something approaching a drunk potato salesman on the pitch – all the stranger.
Not that it’s all entirely bizarre, with Gareth Bale ranked as the quickest in a Top 10 that includes Antonio Valencia (4th) and Aaron Lennon (6th).
Yeah, no idea why either of those players are included either.
Maybe there’s some dark conspiracy behind all of this? For example, Pachuca may be planning a surprise swoop for the Manchester United man.
He wouldn’t be the only European “heavyweight” to arrive in Mexico – France international Andre-Pierre Gignac has been turning out for Tigres UANL since 2015 – but it would still be something of a surprise.
Still, if all this attention results in him landing that “dream” move to China, then we’re all for it.
