They are a newly established Hollywood power couple, and the trailer for the film that brought Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander together has just landed.
From acclaimed director Derek Cianfrance, (Blue Valentine, A Place Beyond The Pines), and based on the best-selling novel from M.L Stedman, The Light Between Two Oceans is a heart-breaking story of love and sacrifice.
On a remote Australian island in the years following World War I, lighthouse keeper Tom Sherbourne ( Fassbender) and his wife, Isabel (Vikander), discover a boat washed ashore carrying a dead man and a two-month old baby. Rescuing the infant, they make the decision to raise her as their own but the consequences of their choice prove to be devastating.
The film, which also stars Rachel Weisz and is produced by David Heyman, is set for release later this year.
27-year-old Vikander and Irishman Fassbender got together while filming this feature, but have thus far been keeping a low profile during awards season. Fassbender is nominated for Best Actor for his role in Steve Jobs for this weekend’s Oscars, while Vikander’s stint in Ex-Machina saw her get a Best Supporting Actress nod.
The couple did venture on a rare night out in London earlier this month having both attending the BAFTA awards.
