After seven bloodless years away from our screens, Jigsaw is back with a brand new film and a trailer that hints at some pretty sick scenarios to come.
For seven movies running from 2004 through to 2010, Saw dominated the world of horror, delivering blood and guts by the bucket load via a scenario that was borderline genius in its simplicity.
Essentially Scream meets David Fincher’s Se7en, the Saw movies saw random groups of hapless victims tasked with escaping seemingly impossible traps or else suffer a grizzly fate.
From this Crystal Maze-like premise, the world’s most chilling serial killer, Jigsaw, emerged.
Played to perfection by Tobin Bell, he was a terminally ill maniac, intent on wreaking revenge against some of the shittiest people in the world or helping them realise the true value of life by escaping one of his traps.
After taking that concept to the very limits of logic and decency, the series has been rebooted with Jigsaw, which is due for release on October 27.
Directed by The Spierig Brothers, whose notable works include Daybreakers and Predestination, Jigsaw is shaping up to be exactly the kind of shot-in-the-arm the franchise, and the horror genre as a whole needed.
With Bell reportedly returning despite **SPOILER ALERT** dying in the third film, the cast also includes Mandela Van Peebles, Matt Passmore, Callum Keith Rennie, Clé Bennett, Hannah Emily Anderson, Laura Vandervoort, Paul Braunstein, Brittany Allen and Josiah Black
Boasting all the hallmarks of a gruesome and potentially messed up addition to the franchise, it’s fair to say Jigsaw is back and looking bloodier than ever.
