The latest trailer for War For The Planet Of The Apes suggests fans could be in for the bloodiest instalment in the man vs ape saga yet.
Following on directly from the events of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the film reunites viewers with Caesar (Andy Serkis), as he and his army of apes embark on a fight for their very existence against an elite army of super soldiers led by The Colonel (Woody Harrelson).
And if the third and, so far, longest trailer is anything to go by, it’s going to be quite the battle, featuring a whole lot of damn dirty apes carrying automatic weapons and causing chaos.
The humans, for their part, appear just as blood thirsty, with several soundbites from both Serkis’ Caesar and Harrelson’s The General hinting at some absolute carnage ahead.
“No mercy, no peace, this is war” the ape chief gargles over sequence featuring several full-blown fire fights. “We are not savages. Apes fight only to survive”
The General, for his part, is in full Churchill mode, leading troops into battle, barking instructions and even indulging in a little interrogation.
“Your children will ask you, what do you do in the greatest war?” he asks his troops at one point. “We created them and now we will bring an end to their kind”
As with the previous film, it’s likely that most are going to be rooting for our ape opponents, led by Caesar alongside his long-time orang-utan wingman Maurice, who has only gone and adopted an orphan human girl this time round – can’t see that going wrong.
In any case, it’s shaping up to be bloody, brutal and gloriously chaotic with Caesar’s dialogue hinting that the war could bring an end to this particular movie saga in some style.
“I did not start this war but I will finish it”
You can find out how it finishes on July 14, 2017.
