It’s one of the most popular shows on TV, so it’s no surprise that talk of a Walking Dead movie keeps coming around.
While most TV show producers keep fairly tight-lipped when it comes to potential big screen spin-offs, the makers of AMC’s hit show are a little more open to the idea.
“William Shatner as Rick. We’ll get Edward James Olmos as Daryl.”
The Walking Dead’s showrunner Scott M Gimple revealed that taking the zombie apocalypse drama to cinemas is something that’s inevitable.
“That question comes up every now and again,” Gimple told Comic Book. “I’m sure one way or another, one day, it’ll happen. I think it would be cool.”
Gimple even joked about recasting the series for the big screen, with some wildcard choices to replace Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus and David Morrissey.
“William Shatner as Rick,” he quipped. “We’ll get Edward James Olmos as Daryl. Hit all the big shows! Matthew Fox as the Governor!”
After a brief resurgence in the early 00s – thanks mainly to 28 Days Later and the Dawn of the Dead remake – things have gone a big quiet on the zombie movie front.
World War Z aside, high-profile undead flicks have been few and far between. A Walking Dead movie could well end up injecting some life back into the genre.
