The TV hosts are pretty slick when it comes to fronting coverage for the BBC and ITV. But when it comes to representing the beautiful game, well, they might not quite be up there in the beauty stakes.
Step forward Vanessa Huppenkothen, the model and presenter who’s the face of football coverage in Mexico. Here are five quick-fire facts about Huppenkothen to get you up to speed on the woman sending pulses racing in Central America.
She loves German football
The 30-year-old has football coursing through her veins. She’s the daughter of ex-German footballer Dieter Huppenkothen and split her childhood years splitting time between Mexico and Duisburg in Germany. Consequently, she’s a big fan of Schalke 04 and follows the Bundesliga avidly.
She’s got brains to match her beauty
Before she was a sports presenter, Huppenkothen studied International Relations in Mexico City with the view to becoming Mexico’s ambassador to Germany. Her master’s thesis will probably make for interesting reading – it’s on FIFA.
She’s a World Cup veteran
Huppenkothen has two World Cups under her belt having covered Mexico’s campaign in the 2010 tournament in South Africa and Brazil 2014. Her work for Televisa also managed to land her in the top five searched-for people in Singapore.
She’s a magazine cover star
GQ, Esquire, Glamour and Cosmopolitan – all of them have been fortunate to have Huppenkothen grace their covers in her native Mexico. How long before world domination?
She (allegedly) dated Cristiano Ronaldo
CR7 and Huppenkothen were heavily rumoured to have hooked up when the latter paid a visit to Spain. She later denied it, tweeting at the time: “I don’t have the pleasure of knowing the current Ballon d’Or holder.”
