Transpotting 2: Here’s what Renton and Sick Boy look like now

Ewan McGregor is back in his iconic role.

Filming on Trainspotting 2, officially titled T2, is underway in Edinburgh and pictures from the set are slowly emerging to show fans what Renton, Sick Boy et al look like 20 years on.

Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller and director Danny Boyle have all been photographed, with the snaps quickly making their way around social media.

McGregor’s Mark Renton promised to clean up and move on at the close of 1996’s Brit classic, and it looks like that may well have happened judging by the pictures doing the rounds.

Renton and Sick Boy are now smartly-suited and hanging around Scottish Parliament – that’s some transformation from the strung-out heroin addicts we last saw in the 90s.

Renton also ripped Sick Boy, Begbie and co off to the tune of £16,000 at the close of that movie, so these pictures suggest that he’s buried the hatchet with his old muckers (well, with Sick Boy at least).

Boyle’s original drama about Edinburgh junkies turned McGregor into a massive star and launched the careers of Miller, Ewen Bremner and Robert Carlyle. It also won screenwriter John Hodge a BAFTA and an Academy Award nomination.

All of these key players will be back for the Trainspotting sequel, which is due to arrive in cinemas in January 2017.
