Trainspotting star Ewan McGregor has provoked a huge debate with Piers Morgan after pulling out of an appearance on Good Morning Britain.

The actor refused to film the show after Morgan made provocative comments about last weekend’s international women’s marches.

Morgan previously caused controversy after saying he was “planning a ‘Men’s March’ to protest at the creeping global emasculation of my gender by rabid feminists”.

“Was going on Good Morning Britain, didn’t realise ‪@piersmorgan was host. Won’t go on with him after his comments about ‪#WomensMarch,” McGregor wrote this morning.

Of course, Morgan hit back at the actor on Twitter, writing: “Sorry to hear that ‪@mcgregor_ewan – you should be big enough to allow people different political opinions. You’re just an actor after all.”

He replied to one fan, saying: “A real man would have come on and debated it with me, not run away like a coward.”

“Vainspotting,” he added.

Fans were largely supportive of Ewan’s decision, but one took issue by saying: “Poor decision first up, it is your job to promote your film. Second, you should have told ‪@piersmorgan to his face.”

To be fair, we think a heated twitter ‘spat’ is way better publicity than a run-of-the-mill interview on breakfast TV would have been anyway…

McGregor is currently starring in T2: Trainspotting, which is released on Friday. Watch the trailer below:
