Now Daniel Craig looks to be out of the James Bond picture, attention is swiftly turning to who’ll don the British spy’s tuxedo next.
While bookmakers Coral have suspended betting on High-Rise star Tom Hiddleston, he’s still open for business with Ladbrokes – though admittedly odds on favourite at 2/5.
Hiddleston is the popular choice thanks to his role as British spy Jonathan Pine in The Night Manager and was reportedly spotted meeting with 007 boss Barbara Broccoli and Spectre director Sam Mendes recently.
Ladbrokes place him ahead of Poldark’s Aidan Turner (3/1), Idris Elba (8/1), Tom Hardy (8/1) and Damian Lewis (10/1) to bag the role.
“Nearly 5000 bets have been placed on the next James Bond market and Hiddleston is the fifth different favourite that’s proving a popular bet with punters,” said Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes.
“Previous gambles have seen Hardy and Lewis backed into odds-on so as far as we’re concerned it’s not over until the fat lady sings.”
Other contenders also include Michael Fassbender (20/1), Batman v Superman’s Henry Cavill (20/1), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (25/1) and Sam Worthington (50/1).
Ladbrokes also offer a couple of big wildcards, namely the prospect of Danny Dyer at 200/1 and a woman making history by becoming the first female 007 at 10/1.
