Tom Hardy is a man of some considerable mystery.
Some days he’s a super-serious actor. Other days he’s a rapper. And then there are the days where he just likes to kick back with his dog.
You know, the sort of days where there’s nothing to do but quote lines from a comic book movie while wearing a jock strap as a pretend mask.
Now, in most people’s cases, that sort of thing wouldn’t be particularly newsworthy. But this is 2018 and this is Tom Hardy. So it is.
The clip was originally posted back in 2016 but has suddenly gone viral on Twitter, with a whole host of fans going bananas for Hardy’s Bane voice and his dog’s seemingly sarcastic reaction.
In the footage, Hardy can be heard stating the following in that memorably mumbling Bane voice:
“Oh, you think darkness is your ally. But you merely adopted the dark; I was born in it, molded by it.
“I didn’t see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!”
The video is tinged with a little bit of sadness though.
Woodstock, the prized pooch that features in the clip – and whose apparent eye-rolling reaction to Hardy’s impression makes it so awesome – actually passed away last year.
Hardy is a huge dog lover and makes no secret of his appreciation for canines great and small on social media – so the clip could bring back happy and sad memories for the star.
He may have his mind elsewhere though – the 40-year-old actor is set for a potentially huge 2018, having just recently wrapped filming on Venom.
Hardy is playing Eddie Brock, Peter Parker’s arch-enemy at the Daily Bugle in Spider-Man and a character who bonds with the alien symbiote Venom to become a formidable force in the comic book world.
An anti-hero of sorts, the film also stars Michelle Williams, who will be taking on a similarly sinister role. There’s no word yet on the movie’s villain, though Woody Harrelson has been linked with the project and he’s awesome in pretty much everything he’s ever done.
