Another day, another major rumour about the next James Bond.
Forget about Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba or the talk of Daniel Craig potentially returning to the role, the new frontrunner is apparently Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom Hardy.
That’s according to fresh info from bookmakers, who’ve seen odds shorten on Hardy and him rise from around fifth favourite to number one.
Paddy Power have odds of 11/5 on Hardy, Ladbrokes are as short as 2/1 and he sits at 3/1 with Coral.
Other popular candidates among punters include Poldark actor Aidan Turner, James Norton and Ben-Hur’s Jack Huston.
One 007 fan has even put together a mock trailer showing what a Tom Hardy James Bond movie could look like.
Splicing together footage from Inception, Legend and recent Bond outings Casino Royale and Skyfall, it makes a pretty convincing case for Hardy as Ian Fleming’s iconic spy.
As an intriguing side-note, Hardy actually starred alongside Craig in 2004’s Layer Cake, the film that allegedly convinced 007 producers he was the right man to take over from Pierce Brosnan.
One man who won’t be donning a tuxedo as the next James Bond is Michael Fassbender.
The Shame star told GQ that he thinks he’s too old to be playing the secret agent.
“To be honest, no,” Fassbender said “As an acting role, I think Daniel has done such a cracking job in this age group… I think the franchise needs something new.”
