Social media can be a pretty terrifying, hateful place at times, can’t it?

For all the negativity online though, every once in a while, people can come together for the common good.

While Twitter is home to millions of trolls all around the world, a fast food fanatic recently received a huge amount of support after posting a tweet about chicken nuggets.

Plucky Twitter user Carter Wilkerson thought he’d chance his arm and ask fast food chain Wendy’s how he’d go about getting a year’s supply of free nuggets.

The restaurant responded, and said that if Carter – a man with only a few thousand followers to his name – could get 18 million retweets then they’d hand out free nuggets for 12 months.

While others would have been put out by the daunting task, Carter got stuck in straight away, tweeting: “Consider it done.”

Wasting no time, Carter posted a screenshot of the exchange, writing: “HELP ME PLEASE. A MAN NEEDS HIS NUGGS.”

Amazingly, Carter’s tweet has racked up over 882,000 retweets at the time of writing after only a day.

While it’s nowhere the record for most retweets ever – that’s still held by Ellen DeGeneres’s Oscars selfie with 3.3 million – but it’s definitely the most retweeted post about chicken nuggets ever, which is a pretty cool record in itself.

There’s a long way to go, but we’d love to see Carter achieve his goal and get his free nuggets.

Forget the trolls, this proves that Twitter can be a force of good at times too…
