What lies beneath the Mountain’s helmet on Game of Thrones

Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson offered a glimpse and you may want to have a sick bag ready.

As murderous Ser Gregor Clegane, or The Mountain, professional strongman and actor Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson has struck fear into the hearts of many a Game of Thrones fan over the past six seasons.

Known for his violent temper and penchant for quite literally crushing skulls on screen, The Mountain may just be the most fearsome mad bastard on television at the moment.

And that status has only been exacerbated in recent times after The Mountain underwent a transformation of sorts after only just surviving an epic fight to the death against Oberyn Martell.

Transformed into something of a zombie by Cersei Lannister’s digraced master Qyburn, The Mountain has worn a helmet for much of the past two series, with his appearance seemingly too hideous for the public to bear.

But that hasn’t stopped Björnsson from giving his Instagram followers a taste of just how disgusting Gregor Clegane looks these days.

Having shared an image of his make-up caked “deformed” face online, it’s likely that fans will never look at Game of Thrones most fearsome foe in quite the same way again.

They will have to wait a while to get another glimpse of The Mountain though, after it was confirmed that the show would return to our screens in the summer of 2017 as part of a shorter seven-episode series.
