The Independence Day: Resurgence Honest Trailer Is Brutal

'Indumbpendence Day' was not well received by the Screen Junkies.

Independence Day: Resurgence, the follow-up to the 1996 original, has been given the Screen Junkies Honest Trailers treatment and it was pretty brutal to say the least.

Something of a YouTube favourite, the Honest Trailer series is known for satirising and poking fun and some of the biggest films on the planet.

In the most part, the series looks at some of the more disappointing fare to emerge from Hollywood over the years, so it’s hardly surprising that ID2 would feature.

Still, few could have expected it to be this brutally hilarious.

“They had 20 years to write this movie, and this is all we got: Independence Day: Resurgence,” the familiar voiceover begins.

“You loved/hated the original’s blend of quality and campiness, thanks to Will Smith, amazing special effects and the greatest speech ever.

“Now gear up for the return that is none of those things.”

Featuring a plot about aliens trying to steal “magma” from the earth’s core, Screen Junkies go to town on “a script so bad Will Smith chose to do Suicide Squad instead.”

Jessie Usher, the guy playing Smith’s character’s son in the follow-up, does not come out unscathed either with his character described as having been “crippled by an accident that left him without charisma.”

Bill Pullman’s inability to fit in a rousing speech and Jeff Goldblum basically playing himself also feature in a five-minute clip that also highlights the one major flaw of the story – how the hell did they not notice that giant spaceship flying towards earth.

Honest Trailers nailed it again.
