Terrifying Trailer For The Nun Lands With A Stark Warning

Just keep telling yourself: it's only a movie…and a sequel, at that.

The first trailer for the latest supernatural scarefest, The Nun, has landed and its every bit as terrifying as you’d imagine it to be.

Like Annabelle before it, The Nun serves as a prequel to The Conjuring and centres on a particularly malevolent spirit with a grim backstory of her own.

The official synopsis is terrifying in itself and reads as follows:

“When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate.

“Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in “The Conjuring 2,” as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned. “

Starring the Oscar-nominated Demian Bichir (“A Better Life”) as Father Burke, Taissa Farmiga (TV’s “American Horror Story”) as Sister Irene, and Jonas Bloquet (“Elle”) as local villager Frenchie, it’s already shaping up to be one of the horror movie events of the year.

The cast also includes Charlotte Hope (TV’s “Game of Thrones”) as the abbey’s Sister Victoria, Ingrid Bisu (“Toni Erdmann”) as Sister Oana, and Bonnie Aarons, reprising her “Conjuring 2” role as the title character.

It’s being directed by Corin Hardy, the guy who came close to resurrecting The Crow for a new reboot, and is based on a screenplay from Gary Dauberman, who wrote the recent update of Stephen King’s it.

Based on a story by the new master of suspense horror, James Wan working alongside Dauberman, this is one horror movie that comes with a warning: just remember it’s only a movie.

These things don’t happen in real-life. Or, at least, we hope they don’t.

The Nun will arrive in cinemas on September 7.
