WWE fans will soon be able to take control of their favourite wrestling superstars, past and present, on the go as part of a new mobile game being developed alongside Sega.
Mobile games are big business these days, with titles like Candy Crush and even sports sims like Fifa Mobile enjoying major success.
WWE Tap Mania will be the WWE’s first foray into the market alongside Sega, who are working with The Tap Lab to create the title.
Though details remain scarce, it’s thought that players will take control of a wrestler of their choice with the aim of climbing a special leadboard based on match results and built around a calendar of in-game events models on the real-life WWE schedule.
Essentially sounding like a watered down version of the career mode that has featured on several wrestling and sports sims in the past, the key selling point here is that fans will be able to select from WWE superstars both old and new.
In addition to this, they will also get the chance to control these characters and compete in classic events like WrestleMania, the King of the Ring and, of course, the Royal Rumble.
Naoki Kameda, chief operating officer of Sega’s mobile division said:
“Working with WWE, a monumental leader in global entertainment, along with The Tap Lab, a studio known for crafting action-packed games that are fun at their core, we’re confident that WWE Tap Mania will delight WWE fans worldwide.”
WWE Tap Mania will be free to download on Android and iOs and is expected to debut later this year.
