The app most likely to turn you into an insomniac has been revealed, and its pretty worrying news for users…
You might think Facebook would be the biggest social media culprit for sleep deprivation, but its actually only the fourth worst.
Claiming the number one spot is everyone’s favourite selfie platform – Snapchat. A new study by bedmaker Silentnight discovered that Snapchatters were most at risk of insomnia, with 68 percent of users claiming that they were unable to sleep because of the selfie app.
Instagram came in at a close second with 62 percent in the survey, which included data from more than 2,000 Britons.
Even more worrying was that 40 percent of those involved in the study claimed to have a social media addiction, with some checking their accounts eight times day for up to three hours.
Weirdly, 20 percent of those also admitted to dreaming about social media. How do you do that?
Half of the Instagram users even woke themselves up during a sleep cycle to check their Instagram feed.
The company’s sleep expert Dr. Ramlakhan thinks that the stat collected only shines a much-needed light on an increasingly narcissistic culture, especially amongst 16 – 24 year olds, who say “they’ve never gone a day without social media.”
A cure to consider is a digital detox. Not only is constant stimulation keeping you awake, it’s also the blue light from your phone that wakes up your brain making it doubly difficult to wind down at night.
Dr. Ramlakhan suggests turning off all technology 60-90 minutes before bedtime, give your brain a break.
