Benicio Del Toro Is Back In Intense Sicario 2: Soldado Trailer

There’s no Emily Blunt this time round but the ante has definitely been upped.

If you thought Sicario was intense wait until you watch the trailer for Sicario 2: Soldado.

Things have escalated since the events of the first movie, with the drug war being fought across the US – Mexico border proving bloodier than ever.

The cartels have even started trafficking terrorists across the border for the fight, and it’s federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) and the mercurial Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro) who have to stop them.

There’s no trace of Emily Blunt’s FBI agent Kate Macer, who was put through the ringer in the first movie, after joining the off-the-books cartel-hunting task force.

Somehow things have got even more down and dirty though, with Matt and Alejandro operating with little to no oversight in a film that’s already shaping up to be more severe than its predecessor.

The only thing standing in their way are Matt’s bosses, including Catherine Keener, who do their level best to try and keep the whole bloody mess under control.

Del Toro’s Alejandro was a man out for revenge in the first movie, tracking down and killing the cartel bosses responsible for the death of his family.

This time round he’s been given a very different assignment though. One involved the daughter of a notorious drug lord.

Facing something of a moral quandary as to whether he follows orders or does what he believes is right, Soldado is shaping up to be a worthy sequel to the excellent Sicario.

Directed by Stefano Sollima, who won widespread acclaim for his work directing the Italian crime drama Suburra and with Tye Sheridan back on writing duties, this is one movie you won’t want to miss.

Sicario 2: Soldado arrives in cinemas on June 29, 2018.
