You can’t keep a good movie franchise down.
Particularly if it’s cheap to make, gets people into cinemas and features a terrifying villain that’s pure nightmare fuel.
That’s right, Saw’s Jigsaw will be making a comeback in Saw 8: Legacy, Deadline reports.
The film will begin production later this year for a release date of October 27, 2017 – just in time for Halloween. It’ll also arrive a week after Insidious 4, making it a bumper fortnight for fans of horror sequels.
Little is known about the sequel’s storyline, but it’ll be directed by the brother team of Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig. The duo previously made the pretty-decent vampire flick Daybreakers and time travel mind-bender Predestination.
The Saw franchise began back in 2004 and produced six sequels, with the most recent instalment Saw 3D arriving in 2010.
The grisly flicks revolve around a sadistic killer known as Jigsaw, who lures his victims into elaborate traps that test their physical and psychological barriers.
Dubbed ‘torture porn’, the series has grossed more than $800 million at the worldwide box office making it one of the most profitable horror film runs of all time.
There’s even been video games and theme park rides for those desperate for a cross-media Saw fix.
One thing’s for certain, we’ll be seeing a lot more of Jigsaw in the coming years.
