The first big meme of 2017 has arrived in the form of Salt Bae – the Turkish chef whose graceful ability to debone and season a steak will send shivers down your spine.
It all started when a rather debonair looking food enthusiast by the name of Nusret Gökçe uploaded a video of himself to Instagram preparing an Ottoman steak.
The owner of some six steakhouses, Gökçe is already something of a force among foodies online, but even this Johnny Depp lookalike could not have predicted the reaction that would follow.
Having amassed an astonishing 2.8 million views in the space of just a few days, the chef’s balletic deboning preparations have been well and truly celebrated as a thing of beauty.
However, it’s the finishing touch that really has fans going wild, with the extravagant effort he puts into garnishing the steak with salt quickly becoming a meme in its own right, accompanied by the somewhat appropriate hashtag, #SaltBae.
And now it’s started, there’s really no way of stopping it.

So Gökçe had best get used to his newfound status as a living, breathing meme.

Because he isn’t the first and he definitely won’t be the last.
My friends: Do you have to be so dramatic?

It’s not exactly doing him much harm online either, with several of the expert cook’s videos continuing to do the rounds in the wake of #SaltBae.
