It was only a matter of time, but Rogue One is now officially one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
The Star Wars anthology film, which tells the story of the events right before A New Hope, was released a month and a half ago and it has already grossed a billion dollars worldwide.
Rogue One was earned rave reviews with the likes of Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Mads Mikkelsen and Riz Ahmed all praised for their performances. Now, the Disney family can also brag that Rogue One is one of only 28 films in the world to have surpassed the one billion mark.
But even with those numbers, Rogue One is not the highest-grossing Star Wars film of all time. That title belongs to Episode VII, The Force Awakens, which in over a year has grossed more than two billion dollars.
And yet, there is something neither of these Star Wars adventures has managed to achieve: overpowering James Cameron. The director is still the king of the world with Avatar and Titanic, which have grossed $2.7 billions and $2.2 billions, respectively.
Rogue One tells the story of how a group of rebels, led by Jyn Erso (Jones) and Captain Cassian Andor (Luna) stole the plans to the Death Star, which set the events of Episode IV in motion.
