Rob Lowe has officially joined the cast of Super Troopers 2, which has started production in Boston.
The Parks and Recreation star will play Guy Le France, an ex-hockey star and mayor of an unspecified Quebec Canadian border town, according to Deadline.com.
Broken Lizard raised around $4.5 million in funding for the sequel, via an Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign, surpassing their initial target of $2 million.
Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske are all returning to write and star in the sequel to the 2001 cult classic with Chandrasekhar also directing.
The addition of Lowe to the film represents a major coup though, with the 52-year-old boasting an impressive comedic CV that includes memorable appearances in 90s favourites like Wayne’s World and Tommy Boy as well as his more recent TV work.
Potentially cast as the main antagonist in the film, there’s still no word on whether Brian Cox will return as Captain John O’Hagen while Marisa Coughlan also has yet to confirm her involvement.
One recent social media post, meanwhile, suggested there could be room for a potential cameo from country and western star Willie Nelson.
Nelson appeared in the big-screen version of The Dukes of Hazzard, which was directed by Chandrasekhar and was pictured alongside the Super Troopers 2 cast, in their full costumes.
