Rihanna’s next foray into cinema comes from a very unlikely place, namely a hilarious tweet.
The superstar is set to appear alongside Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o in a new Netflix film based on the caption of a photo which originated in the depths of Tumblr.
The picture in question is of Rihanna and Lupita sat side by side at a 2014 fashion show.
Some genius then added this caption, “They look like they’re in a heist movie with Rihanna as the tough-as-nails leader/master thief and Lupita as the genius computer hacker.”
A few years passed and the same photo resurfaced on Twitter last month with this refashioned description by Twitter user 1800SADGAL,
“Rihanna looks like she scams rich white men and Lupita is the computer-smart best friend that helps plan the scams.”

Suddenly more and more Twitter users began adding to the storyline and created an imaginary production team and cast.
It became such a sensation that Lupita Nyong’o herself took notice, tweeting the entire plotline to Rihanna.

Netflix then caught wind, and now the rest is history, production on this buddy film is slated to begin production next year with lauded director Ava DuVernay (Selma, the 13th) at the helm.
