She sank without a trace during her big screen debut Battleship but Rihanna could be set for a second chance at movie superstardom in The Matrix reboot.
The R’n’B singer won rave reviews for her appearance as Marion Crane in Bates Motel, the prequel series based on the Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho.
Rihanna’s representatives are now hoping the movie could help her land an even bigger role, amid rumours of interest from the team currently putting together plans for a reboot of The Matrix trilogy.
“Rihanna is a global star who’s sold millions around the world. Movie producers know she has a lot of untapped potential as far as films are concerned and are eager to have her on board,” a source told The Daily Star.
“Rihanna’s team are elated and are open to discussions as they see major potential in her being tied to a movie like the Matrix. It’d be a win-win for all,” they added.
Reports suggest studio bosses are keen to rejuvenate the sci-fi franchise though it remains unclear whether the reboot would feature either Keanu Reeves or Laurence Fishburne.
loaded had already offered up an assessment of what is needed should the studio decide to move forward with a reboot – and it doesn’t necessarily include Rihanna.
The singer endured a disastrous start to her major movie career when she appeared in Peter Berg’s Battleship, a movie based on the board game of the same name.
A critical and commercial flop on release, the film also earned Ri-Ri a Razzie Award for worst actress that year.
Here’s hoping things go a little better on The Matrix.
