We’ve seen some pretty weird stuff happen on rugby pitches over the years – remember the Harlequins ‘bloodgate’ back in 2009? – but this might just be the strangest of the lot.
North Otago were taking on Mid Canterbury in New Zealand’s Heartland Championship back in 2013 when high winds rendered the game pretty much unplayable.
The weather conditions caused the most bizarre kick-off in the history of the game too, after the ball was sent 50m in completely the wrong direction.
Relive the moment below:
The ball flew all the way back to the dead ball line, and very nearly bounced straight over the posts.
While the ref probably should have called the game off there and then, North Otago battled through the conditions to seal a tense 19-18 win.
