Tiffani Thiessen, the Saved By The Bell star who didn’t go on to star in Showgirls, is heading to Netflix and a return to the world of sitcoms.
Thiessen, who played Kelly Kapowski on Saved By The Bell, before going on to star in Beverly Hills, 20210 and several other notable shows over the years, has been cast in Alexa & Katie, Netflix’s first fully-blown sitcom.
A popular fixture on Saved By The Bell, where she played main character Zac Morris’ on-off love interest, Thiessen also had a lead role in the hit series White Collar which ran for five years from 2009 to 2014.
Now married with two children, Thiessen remains very much in the public consciousness with Justin Bieber among her biggest fans.
Bieber wore a t-shirt featuring Thiessen in her Saved By The Bell at the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards, where he also expressed his admiration for the star.
Due to be broadcast in 2018, Bieber is sure to tune into Alexa & Katie, which will focus on two lifelong friends heading into their freshman year of high school.
Created by Heather Wordham with Matthew Carlson and show-runner, the show is sure to attract plenty of attention from Saved By The Bell fans even if Thiessen has been cast as Alexa’s protective mother.
No word yet on whether any of her old co-stars will appear, though it’s probably safe to rule Elizabeth Berkley out at this point.
