The real reason Karen Gillan is decked out in a super-skimpy “explorer” outfit for the Jumanji reboot Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has finally been revealed.

Gillan’s attire courted plenty in the way of negative headlines after the first publicity stills from the sequel, also starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black, were released.

While all three of Gillan’s co-stars appeared in the shit wearing the sort of safari gear you might expect from a group traversing treacherous jungle terrain, the Guardians of the Galaxy actress was snapped in something a little more revealing.

Many fans were, rightly, up in arms about the seeming double standard on display.

However, further details on Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle appear to have offered up an explanation.

Footage shown at Sony’s CinemaCon revealed that the plot of the film will focus around a magical video game rather than the board game that featured in the Robin Williams version.

The plot apparently focuses on four high school students, who come across an old version of the game that appears to date back to the 90s.

All of which goes some way to explaining Gillan’s character.

Because, as it turns out, she’s decked out a whole lot like a certain 90s gaming icon by the name of Lara Croft, Tomb Raider.

So, as it turns out, Gillan’s character is a tongue-in-cheek piss take of the Playstation legend, which kind of makes it all alright, yeah? Yeah? Well, maybe.

In any case, we are set for a Tomb Raider filled few months, with a new game and film already in the works.
