Playboy has featured its first ever Muslim woman in a hijab, after it was revealed that American journalist Noor Tagouri appears in the magazine’s October issue.
The 22-year-old, who works as a reporter for video news network Newsy, is described as “a badass activist” in the new Renegades edition of the publication.
The Renegades special focuses on men and women “who risked it all — even their lives — to do what they love.”
“It’s here! I’m honoured to share that Playboy has named me a 2016 #Renegade and has featured me in their piece!!” she wrote on Instagram.
Noor also spoke to Playboy, saying: “I know what it’s like to have the narrative of our community be skewed and exploited in the media”.
“I was like, ‘Hey, I know what it’s like to be misrepresented in the media. I won’t do that to you. I want to tell your story because it’s important and deserves justice.'”
Noor has over 150,000 Instagram followers, and presents a travel blog through the social media site.
Playboy introduced a ‘no nudity’ policy last year in a bid to update the magazine.
