Peaky Blinders star Charlotte Riley has been cast as Kate Middleton in a new BBC royal drama.
The actress will star as the Duchess of Cambridge in a new TV adaptation of West End production King Charles III.
The award-winning play, written by Doctor Foster scribe Mike Bartlett, envisions Prince Charles’s accession to the throne following the death of Elizabeth II.
King Charles III is being adapted into a one-off drama on the BBC. British actor Tim Pigott-Smith will play Charles.
Speaking about playing Kate Middleton, Charlotte Riley said: “It’s such a unique project. To be both modern and rich in verse and to play someone who is real but yet totally re-imagined for this story is an exciting prospect for an actor.
“Kate Middleton is a really interesting woman, particularly within the context of this play, and it is a challenge I am really looking forward to.”
Riley plays May Carleton in Peaky Blinders, and has also had roles in The Edge Of Tomorrow and In The Heart Of The Sea. She has been married to Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom Hardy since 2014.
