Stephanie McMahon sent a clear message to Ronda Rousey ahead of their Wrestlemania showdown: if you’re gonna sign up to star in WWE, you’ve got to expect to get body slammed through your fair share of tables.
Wrestlers have been getting smashed through lightweight looking fold-out tables for as long as anyone can remember.
The pinnacle of the table slam craze came during the early 2000s when The Hardy Boyz, Edge & Christian and The Dudley Boys did battle in a series of epic table, ladder, chair (TLC) tag team matches.
Rousey had already got her taste of table slamming too, after dishing one out to Triple H during an encounter between the pair at WWE Elimination Chamber.
And now it was her turn to be on the receiving end of a table slam, with Triple H’s other half, Stephanie McMahon, returning the favour.
McMahon and Triple H are taking on Rousey and tag team partner Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania later this month.
And they have been busy ramping up the supposed beef between the two pairs. So far, Rousey had had it all her own way, but this was the moment the tables were finally turned.
With Triple H dealing with Angle, McMahon stepped in to prevent Rousey from laying the smack down on her hubby for the second week running.
The result was a table smash that looked painful, whatever your opinion on wrestling and sports entertainment as a whole.
Yet arguably McMahon’s most savage move came with her comments in the immediately aftermath. Taking to the mic with Rousey stricken, the WWE chief warned:
“You are going to lose at Wrestlemania, in the record books, your very first match in WWE is going to be a loss to me, and we all know the world knows how you handle losses.”
Ouch. A clear reference to her UFC defeat to Amanda Nunes. Ronda, would you like some ice for that burn?
