Nicolas Cage’s desire to “go method” when it comes to acting has seen the Oscar winner take audiences in some pretty strange directions.
From questionable haircut/accent combinations in Con Air through to just being plain bats*** crazy in Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, Cage knows no limits.
So when loaded first got wind that Cage would be starring in a film about a handyman who receives a vision telling him to go to Pakistan and track down Osama Bin Laden, we expected something pretty weird.
However, the trailer for Army of One exceeded all expectations, with Cage transformed into something approaching the living embodiment of The Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons, except with power tools in place of graphic novels.
Cast alongside Russell Brand and Bridesmaids’ Wendi McLendon-Covey, Cage is back to his crazy best and looking more mental than ever.
Directed by TV comedy veteran Larry Charles, who also directed Borat, Bruno and The Dictator, the film is heading straight to video-on-demand in on November 4 with a Blu-Ray and DVD release set for November 15.
Cage is set for a busy few months too, with four films due to be released before the end of the year.
That includes Paul Schrader’s latest movie, Dog Eat Dog, which sees Cage back in Bad Lieutenant territory alongside Willem Dafoe.
For more on Dog Eat Dog and Cage’s methods on set, head over to our exclusive interview with one of his co-star’s Melissa Bolona, who lifts the lid on his on-set antics as well as her own transition from model to full-time actress.
Bolona, that is, not Cage.
