The first teaser trailer for Nightflyers, the new Netflix series based on the George R.R. Martin novella of the same name, has landed and already looks utterly terrifying.

Netflix users have been spoilt for choice when it comes to sci-fi scares of late, with The Cloverfield Paradox, Altered Carbon and Alex Garland’s excellent Annihilation all landing in recent weeks.

Nightflyers is already shaping up nicely too, with the new teaser offering up plenty of scares from a premise that sounds scary and intriguing in equal measure.

The plot sees a crew of explorers journey on the most advanced ship in the galaxy, The Nightflyer, to intercept a mysterious alien spacecraft that might hold the key to their survival.

As they near their destination, the crew discover that the ship’s artificial intelligence and never-seen captain may actually be steering them into the deadly and unspeakable horrors awaiting them deep in the darkest reaches of space.

The series boasts an impressive cast too, that includes Gretchen Mol, Eoin Macken and David Ajala.

Perfect viewing for Game of Thrones fans looking to get their Martin fix ahead of the final series next year, Nightflyers looks bloody, violent and spectacular, fusing elements of Alien and 2001: A Space Odyssey to fine effect.

The series has yet to be given an official release date but, given Netflix’s penchant for releasing these things on the sly, it could be sooner rather than later.
