Some of still remember when the concept of “deep pan” was seen as a major breakthrough.
Yet in the past few years, ‘Za lovers have seen everything from burger-filled crusts to cheesy chip toppings – and that’s really only the tip of the iceberg.
Companies are working around the clock to bring us pizza innovations of every shape and size. Supermarket giant Morrisons are the latest to get in on the act with a slice of pure ‘Za genius.
Ask yourself this: How could you possibly improve on pizza? If you work for Morrisons the answer is simple: replace all of the dough with a super-sized Yorkshire pudding.
You know what Yorkshire Puddings are right? Fluffy discs of pastry heaven. Now imagine that with a pizza topping and you’re close to understanding the genius of this particular concept.
The new Yorkshire Pudding pizzas are being sold for £3 each and come in two equally-tasty-sounding varieties: meat feast or classic pepperoni.
It’s been launched to coincide with Yorkshire Pudding Day but, here at loaded, we’re quietly hoping these new culinary creations will be sticking around for the foreseeable future.
Jenny Dixon, Yorkshire Pudding Expert (what a job title!) at Morrisons, said: ‘Everyone loves Yorkshire pudding and everyone loves pizza, so we are combining the two to create the ultimate comfort food for Yorkshire Pudding Day.
‘The crust is made the same way as a typical Yorkshire pudding and is topped the same way as one of our pizzas. We’re looking forward to hearing what customers think but we hope that they’ll love it!’
Partly inspired by those diddy Chicago Town pizzas you can pop in the microwaves, these bad boys are a whole new level of amazing.
At present the plan is for them to remain on supermarket shelves until February 20 – so go and grab a load now.
