Monica Bellucci could be set for a shock return to the James Bond franchise with Daniel Craig thought to be keen on the Italian actress reprising her role from Spectre.
Bellucci appeared briefly as Lucia Sciarra in the 2015 hit, the wife of one of 007’s on-screen adversaries. In doing so, she became the oldest Bond girl in the history of the franchise and garnered plenty of attention from fans thanks to a steamy scene involving herself and Craig.
Yet the actress’s role was all too brief for some fans who felt more could have been done with her character, who only appears for a few minutes in a handful of scenes.
Craig evidently agrees with The Mirror reporting that the actor has been pushing to have Bellucci return as part of the ongoing negotiations for the 25th 007 outing, which is due to be released in 2019.
“He wants Monica Bellucci back, that’s for sure,” a source close to the actor told The Mirror.
Whether that comes to fruition remains to be seen, but the return of Sciarra could fit well with a film that is fast shaping up to be among the darkest 007 movies yet.
According to a script leaked online, the next Bond movie will see Bond now happily married and living a normal life away from the secret service and alongside Lea Seydoux’s Dr. Madeleine Swann
“Bond quits the secret service, and he’s in love and gets married,” an insider told New York Post’s Page Six column.
Alas, in a turn of events similar to the ones witnessed at the end of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Bond’s wife is killed and 007 embarks on a mission of revenge.
Tentatively titled Shatterhand, with Christoph Waltz’s Blofeld also potentially returning, the film is rumoured to be a loose remake of You Only Live Twice but details remain sketchy at this point.
Craig’s return is possibly the biggest shock of all though – given the number of times he made it clear he really wasn’t keen on returning as James Bond.
Something evidently changed his mind.
