Is Jose Mourinho overpaying for this European star?

Manchester United are on the verge of completing their first signing of the summer, after reportedly agreeing to a £45m ($52m) fee for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

As reported by Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport, the 28-year-old Croatian is currently working out personal terms with the club.

United manager Jose Mourinho is rumoured to have travelled to Zagreb to meet Perisic in person back in March, and a move to Manchester could be completed over the next few days.

An experienced international, with 56 caps for Croatia, Perisic possesses great speed and crossing ability, and would fit into a more traditional Manchester United system, with pace on the wings.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg star registered 11 goals and 8 assists in Serie A last season in a struggling Inter Milan team.

However, the transfer rumours have failed to excite some sectors of the Old Trafford crowd, with a number of fans online reacting negatively to the news.

Some say that the club were paying too much for the 28-year-old, while others believed that the club should be attracting more high-profile players. Others were also concerned that it would limit first team opportunities for Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial.

Twitter reactions were mixed to say the least…

If Perisic does indeed join Manchester United though, he could quickly turn fans around by putting in eye-watching performances at Old Trafford.

It’s not the only high-profile move that Manchester United are reported to be weighing up this summer.

If rumours are to be believed, the club is currently negotiating the terms of a swap deal that would see David De Gea depart for Real Madrid in return for Alvaro Morata and a cash offer.
