M. Night Shyamalan, the filmmaker famous for employing more twists than a bag of Fusilli, is planning return to one of his most popular movies, Unbreakable, for a sequel.
The writer/director has enjoyed something of a resurgence of late, with his suitably loop thriller Split striking gold at the box office.
That success follows on from his previous, creepy, low-budget found-footage effort The Visit, which was similarly successful with cinemagoers.
Now, with the wind evidently in Shyamalan’s sails, he’s set his sights on a follow-up to 2000’s supernatural hit, starring Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson.
“I do intend on making [another] Unbreakable movie and I’m intending on doing it next,” Shyamalan revealed to Uproxx.
“I’m still close to Bruce [Willis] and everybody…and still in touch with Sam [Jackson] and all that stuff. So, hopefully that becomes a reality very soon.”
There could be another new addition to the sequel too – SPOILERS FOLLOW.
Now, as anyone who stuck around to the very end of Split knows, in a shock TWIST, it turns out the movie takes place in the same universe as Unbreakable, with Willis’ David Dunn turning up right at the death.
So does that mean McAvoy’s Horde will be back for Unbreakable 2? Well, according to another interview Shylaman gave to Den Of Geek, the script for the original film actually featured a version of The Horde.
Anyways, Shylaman confirmed that the next movie “”will be a sequel to Unbreakable, but also a sequel to Split.”
