The Loophole That’s Allowing Porn To Be Uploaded To YouTube

There is very little Google can do to prevent it either.

A veritable feast of porn can now be accessed on YouTube thanks to a unique loophole that is allowing pirates to exploit the website’s hosting services.

More importantly, at this juncture it’s unclear what, if anything, YouTube‘s owners Google can do about the problem.

YouTube has strict rules banning the uploading of material that is either sexually explicit or pirated from a copyrighted source.

However, as TorrentFreak reports, several pirates have found a simple route around the current measures in place.

YouTube uses Content-ID software to scan videos and run comparisons with other work to assess whether a video is in breach of copyright.

The website also utilises complaints and comments from users and staff to identify any videos that may be unsuitable for the site.

Pirates have found a simple way round this though by uploading content but not publicly listing it. It means users come directly from Google, circumventing YouTube’s Content-ID system and administrators in the process.

This also allows the pirates involved to embedded the videos on their own pages, getting the extra traffic and additional advert revenue in the process.

The loophole is not being used just for porn either, with any number of pirated films and TV shows finding their way online.

While YouTube does tend to take down these videos once discovered, the covert nature of their listings mean the process takes a lot longer, in which time the offending user has usually already uploading the same copyrighted content via a different account.

There is one way you can help though – if you see one of these dodgy videos floating around on the website, notify the authorities. Or don’t. It’s really up to you.
