The Lego Batman Movie trailer looks better than Batman v Superman

Will Arnett is back to give the gravel-voiced vigilante a sense of humour.

Forget Christian Bale, Ben Affleck and the rest – everyone knows deep down that the best Batman is Will Arnett.

The Lego Movie saw the minifigure vigilante steal the show, and now he’s got his own solo film to cement himself as a superhero force to be reckoned with.

The first trailer for The Lego Batman Movie has premiered and it’s welcome relief from the grim and gritty Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight epic is getting annihilated by critics, and based on this first teaser The Lego Batman Movie won’t have these kind of problems.

Arnett’s Arrested Development comedy chops mean his Bruce Wayne is more in line with the light-hearted Adam West Batman.

However, key Dark Knight tenets like Gotham City, the Batmobile and a host of familiar supporting characters are all present and correct to make sure this is a legit Batman film. Even if it does all play out in Lego bricks.

The cast? It’s as good as any superhero movie out there. Among Batman’s allies is Michael Cera as the voice of Robin, Ralph Fiennes as trusty butler Alfred Pennyworth and Rosario Dawson as Batgirl.

The Joker now comes in the cackling form of The Hangover’s Zach Galifianakis, while the most outthere casting pick is reserved for Gotham City mayor Marion Grange, who’ll be voiced by Mariah Carey. Yes, that Mariah Carey.

Outside of that expect this Batman movie to feature more singing in the vein of Untitled Self Portrait and the promise of real-life larks from the man behind Gob Bluth.

Arnett memorably made an appearance as Batman at the 2015 Oscars, sporting full superhero clobber to accompany Tegan And Sara’s performance of Everything Is Awesome.

The Lego Batman Movie will open in cinemas on February 10, 2017. The Lego Movie Sequel will follow in 2018.
