Blade Runner 2 will boast the talents of not only Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling and Robin Wright but also rising star Ana de Armas.
Joining a cast that also includes Dave Bautista with Sicario director Denis Villeneuve at the helm, plot details on Blade Runner 2 remain scarce. But, with the addition of de Armas, the producers may have made their most critical bit of casting yet.
De Armas rose to prominence following a standout role in Eli Roth’s recent dark thriller Knock Knock.
Teamed with Roth’s similarly stunning wife Lorenza Izzo, the pair wreaked havoc on married father Keanu Reeves in a sexy revenge story which also featured plenty in the way of wet T-shirts and naked shower scenes.
All of which begs the question: has de Armas been cast as Blade Runner 2’s equivalent of Zhora, the replicant snake-themed stripper who also happened to have the world’s worst stunt double?
Given her track record for semi-clad violence, there’s every chance the Cuban actress will end up playing a highly attractive robotic femme fatale in the sequel.
However, this remains purely speculative for now. The only specifics concerning the plot so far known are that it’s based on an idea by original director and writer team Ridley Scott and Hampton Fancher. It will be based a few decades after the story of the first film and will feature Rick Deckard, as played by Harrison Ford in the 1982 original.
Due to be released in October 2017, that release date was actually brought forward from January 12th 2018.
A 27-year-old of Spanish descent, de Armas’ next big role is in the Todd Phillips-directed comedy War Dogs.
Starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller, the film is based on the true story of two real-life American arms dealers who land themselves in a whole heap of trouble after negotiating a deal in Afghanistan.
