Kim Basinger is back on the big screen this week in 70s cop comedy The Nice Guy, and she’ll soon be classing up the joint in next year’s erotic blockbuster Fifty Shades Darker.
After a successful career as a model, Basinger hit the big screen in the early 80s and hasn’t looked back since. To mark her movie comeback, here’s a look back at 9 1/2 (get it?) of her most smokin’ movie moments.
Wayne’s World 2
Played strictly for laughs, this showed Basinger had a talent for comedy to match her beauty. Garth Algar will never forget his first encounter with Honey Horneé.
My Stepmother Is An Alien
Science fiction, comedy and romance collided in this 80s comedy that saw Basinger star as an alien opposite Dan Aykroyd. There also happened to be a highly memorable striptease…
The Door In the Floor
Basinger turned cougar for this drama about a marriage on the rocks. Infidelity is on the agenda here, and Jon Foster’s Eddie O’Hare gets a summer to remember after a fling with Kim.
Never Say Never Again
A Bond film made away from the Eon production company behind all 24 of 007’s adventures, this teamed Basinger up with a creaking Sean Connery. Her turn as Bond Girl Domino shook the ageing superspy (and the audience) into life.
Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne fell hard for Basinger’s photojournalist Vicki Vale in the first manor screen outing for the Dark Knight. Can you really blame him? Only Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman gets anywhere near Basinger for pure sex appeal.
Not one to be eclipsed by Eminem, Basinger had a scene-stealing moment straddling none other than General Zod himself, Michael Shannon. What would Batman think?
Basinger played a prostitute swept up in police corruption in 50s Los Angeles for this Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce drama. She was so good Hollywood finally sat up and took note of her stellar acting abilities – an Oscar now deservedly sits on her mantlepiece thanks to LA Confidential.
A largely forgotten early 90s thriller, Final Analysis partnered Basinger up with Richard Gere for some steamy neo-noir action. Basinger’s character Heather Evans seduces Gere as she tries to get him to murder her husband.
A not-very-good remake of Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw’s 70s thriller, this at least boasted Basinger in red hot form. Intense love scenes with then-husband Alec Baldwin cemented Kim as the ultimate 90s sex symbol.
9 1/2 Weeks
Basinger. Rourke. The contents of a fridge. You know exactly what this is…
