Keanu Reeves’s John Wick was one of the surprise sleeper hits of 2014.
The Matrix star returned to his 90s action hero form as an assassin who comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters who killed his beloved dog. The fact said pooch was given to him by his dying wife gave this particular revenge story extra bite.
Directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, Reeves’s Matrix stunt doubles, it boasted insanely violent actions scenes, including a club shoot-out that was one for the ages.
Now there’s a sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2, on the way – and by the look of the first trailer it’s going to be just as intense as the first. Plus, Wick’s back with the dog he got at the end of the first film.
Watch the John Wick 2 trailer:
The story this time around will see him in Rome to honour a blood oath with a former associate to protect a secretive assassins’ guild. Shooting and punching, naturally, ensues.
Ian McShane, Bridget Moynahan, Thomas Sadoski, John Leguizamo and Lance Reddick are all reprising their roles, while Orange Is the New Black’s Ruby Rose, Common and Peter Stormare are joining the cast.
Most excitingly of all, the film will bring together Reeves and Laurence Fishburne for the first time since The Matrix. Woah!
John Wick: Chapter 2 will be released in cinemas in February 2017.
