Kate Beckinsale has landed a new movie role that’ll see her channelling The Graduate’s iconic cougar Mrs Robinson.
The Underworld star has signed up to appear in new Amazon Studios drama The Only Living Boy in New York, which takes its name from Simon and Garfunkel’s 1970 hit from their album Bridge Over Troubled Water.
The movie boasts an impressive cast with Jeff Bridges, Green Room’s Callum Turner and Kiersey Clemons in lead roles, Variety reports.
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps writer Allan Loeb penned the script for the film, which centres on Turner’s recent college graduate starting a relationship with his father’s mistress (played by Beckinsale).
A college graduate romancing an older woman and trying to find his place in the world? All sounds a bit Graduate, right?
Fans of Dustin Hoffman’s classic 60s movie will no doubt get a thrill out of seeing Beckinsale doing her best Anne Bancroft.
The Only Living Boy in New York has been one of those movies that’s being kicking around in development hell for years, with ScriptShadow describing it as “basically The Graduate meets Great Expectations with a pinch of The Great Gatsby thrown in for good measure”.
The Amazing Spider-Man and 500 Days of Summer filmmaker Marc Webb is the director who’s finally bringing it to the big screen.
