Jennifer Lopez just revealed her grim diet before she hit it big.
The mega star claimed she survived on merely one slice of pizza a day to get by because she couldn’t afford anything else as a struggling dancer in 1980’s New York [via Variety].
“I ate one slice of pizza each day – no breakfast, no lunch,” she said as she promoted her new TV show World of Dance.
“I would eat it at 6 pm so it would hold me over until the next day. That’s how I lived, once I moved out of my mum’s house, and I did that for a couple of years before I got my first big job.”
Eventually, in 1991, she got a job as a fly girl on the US sketch comedy series In Living Colour. From there she broke out onto the movie scene with her iconic role as slain Tejano singer Selena, and the rest is history.
She’s a household name now, but Jenny from the block says that she’s glad she suffered on the way up because it keeps her grounded now.
“For me, coming from that struggle, this is a dream come true for me,” she explained. “I don’t say that lightly.”
Lopez has been very busy lately, with her hit television show Shades of Blue coming back for a third series and her Las Vegas concert residency becoming wildly popular with audiences.
We think she can afford a few pizzas now – she’s definitely earned it.
